Carpentersville Memories

In Honor and Memory of Charlotte Engels

 May 14, 1938 – November 29, 2006

Charlotte “Char” Engels (Heenan)

Mother of Chuck, Bruce, Linda and Jeannine, passed away on Nov. 29, 2006, she was 68 years old.

Charlotte was born on May 14, 1938 in Spider Lake, Wis. the daughter of the late Hugh and Pearl (Olson) Heenan.

On June 16, 1956 she married Charles Engels. They celebrated 50 years together. Char loved nature walks and was especially proud of the memorial bench at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve which was placed in honor of her and Chuck on their 50th wedding anniversary by her family. Char loved being with her family and cooking for family gatherings. She was known as someone who always put the concerns of others before her own.

Charlotte was fortunate to be able to be a ‘stay at home’ mom during her time in Carpentersville through the 60’s and early 70’s. She loved to join in on neighborhood water fights in the summer and even took Chuck Jr. and his friends to the Dundale Drive In on occasion. She enjoyed taking us to Santa’s Village and loved our vacations to Northern Wisconsin every summer. Her musical tastes ranged from Elvis and Ray Charles to Jim Reeves and Johnny Cash, there was always music in our house growing up. She had a wonderful sense of humor that will continue to keep her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren laughing for a long time to come.

She left very suddenly and will be sadly missed by her husband, Charles; her children, Charles Jr. (Criss) Engels, Georgia; Bruce (Christi) Engels, Green Bay; Linda (Tom) Steber, De Pere; and Jeannine (Hans) Liebert, New York; her grandchildren, Brandon, Heather, Brittany and Josh Engels, Kaitlyn Engels and Lorelei (J.P.) Savaryn and Kyle Wondrash; one brother, John (Gerry) Heenan, Oklahoma; and sister, Joan (Ron) Strand, Florida.

She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a sister, Jean (Frank) Miller.

Our loss is heaven’s gain.
