We bring back Memories you didn’t know you had

What was Meadowdale Carnival like in the olden days?

When did you first get to visit the Meadowdale Carnival?  If you lived in Carpentersville, any time since the early 1960’s, it was probably a yearly event.  The earliest reporting I can find regarding Meadowdale Carnival is from the Free Press in the late 1960’s.  It was usually the Greater American Free Circus and Carnival.  If you have any images of Meadowdale Carnival to share please contact us.

The Meadowdale Carnival

The carnivals were held at the Meadowdale Shopping Center, sometimes twice a year, and usually included a circus as well.  All-Star Amusements and Great American Free Circus and Carnival were two of the companies that put on the event.

The carnival and circus were held on the north end of the Meadowdale Shopping Center.  It took up the area where the go kart track used to be as well as much of the parking lot in front and to the north of Chicago Furniture Mart.

In the late 1960’s and throughout the 1970’s the circus and carnival were held in the early spring and was named the MBA Meadowdale Carnival. MBA is the Meadowdale Businessmen’s Association.

I remember going to the carnival in the early 1970’s; it was a great time and always lots of fun.  Plenty of rides and games for which the prices were not unreasonable.  It could be a very affordable experience even for a young teenager at the time.  It was a great place to meet up with friends and meet new people.  I will always fondly remember the fun we all had whenever the carnivals came to town.
