What could be better than dinner at Simonini’s?
An area icon in eating establishments, Simonini’s was a favorite for the entire area. From 1921 until the devastating fire in 1974, this was a first class restaurant.

Simonini’s
Known for great food and great service, the restaurant was ‘born’ in 1921 as a small hotel in Algonquin. The location was at the intersection of Illinois routes 31 and 62. The building, a two-story restaurant, was a fashionable and popular restaurant, started by a young couple.
The restaurant served Italian and American food. In later years, seven sons (later five), along with one daughter, ran the restaurant.
The restaurant had nationwide recognition. Their Italian specialties were spaghetti and ravioli. For those who preferred American fare, steaks and chicken were very popular. Banquets, including weddings, were in high demand.
Unfortunately, in early December 1974, a fire during the dinner hour turned the restaurant into rubble. Some of the rubble was on the site for many years. There was a picture of a person who shot an arrow at a target. The statement included said – Sim’s will reopen. Unfortunately, it never did.
