How much could you eat at the Smorgasbord?

Swedish Manor and Nordic Steak House (not to be confused with The Manor Restaurant) was located in West Dundee.  It was part of a smorgasbord (meaning buffet style) chain in the Chicago suburbs. I remember going there for homecoming dinner one year.  My assistant’s parents only took her there a couple times (they preferred their entrees be served to them).  This location was located in the north part of the building shared with Nordic Steak House on Illinois Route 31.

If you have any restaurant images to share please contact us.

The Swedish Manor Smorgasbord and Nordic Steak House

This business was located on Illinois Route 31. The location housed two restaurants, The Swedish Manor Smorgasbord and Nordic Steak and Pub. They had separate entrances. They were parent-child businesses. Both were a part of Chicago area chains. One a buffet; the other a sit-down restaurant. They collectively were known as Swedish Manor Smorgasbord and Nordic Steak ‘N Pub.

Drinks were brought to your table by the wait staff. The food was served buffet style. In case you did not know, the definition of smorgasbord is buffet.

Of the offerings, and there were a lot, hot and cold meats were always available. Also, salads, and other hot and cold items were offered. There were some Swedish offerings, too. The most well-known were the pickled herring and Swedish meatballs.

This was an all-you-can-eat restaurant (buffets usually are). Still have room? Or did you save some room? Dessert was also on the menu.

A manager was George Karas. He went on to become one of the owners of The Village Squire. He and his brothers had several restaurants.
