Woodfield Mall

Welcome to the Carpentersville Memories Woodfield Mall Page.  Our goal is to bring back some fun memories of growing up in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

We bring back Memories you didn’t know you had

Did you spend much time at Woodfield Mall?

Woodfield Mall

Construction started on this mall in 1969. It was completed (and the mall opened) in 1971. There were 59 stores when the mall opened. Within two years, that number increased to 189.

The name Woodfield came from a former Sears board member Robert E. Wood and Marshall Field and Company founder, Marshall Field. The opening was marked with entertainment by (singer) Carol Lawrence, (actor) Vincent Price, and two marching bands.

The retail space originally was 1,900,000 square feet. A water tower, 135 feet tall, was constructed. It supplies water to the mall and nearby village.

Besides shops, there were other attractions. At one time there was a free aquarium and waterfall. There was an ice rink there, too.
